Adopted - Washington

Woohoo! I am happy to hear that Washington, from Louie's Legacy, was adopted today. He is going to a home where they adopted another dog from Louie's Legacy a couple of years ago. So Washington is going to have a companion.  Great news!

My first day on the job

A couple of months ago, I applied to be a member of HeARTspeak, which is an organization that gathers photographers and artists to capture adoptable pets in various animal shelters across the world.  We, as artists, capture the essence and personality of these animals through our photographs, which are then presented in the adoption websites.  The goal is that these photographs will lead to a faster adoption rate for the shelters.

After officially being accepted by HeARTspeak, I applied to volunteer for Louie's Legacy in Staten Island as a photographer.  They immediately contacted me and invited me to one of their  adoption events that occurred at the Westerleigh Folk Festival this past Saturday.

Remember that scene in Goodfellas where Karen gets married and she is just overwhelmed from meeting soo many people?  That was how I felt when meeting the staff and foster parents at Louie's Legacy, there were alot of people working the tables and soo many foster families taking care of adoptable dogs.  It really puts into perspective how many pets really NEED a home.

If you are interested in any of the captured dogs, I hyperlinked the images to their adoption profiles in Petfinder.

(BTW, by the time I was composing this post, I believe some of the pets that I've met were being adopted since I couldn't find their entry on Petfinder.  Wow, things move fast!)

Dilly and Fluffy, two dogs that need to be adopted together.  Supposedly they are senior but there was nothing senior about Dilly. His energy was good and loved attention.

Blaxx is one of the most handsomest dog (beside Jameson and Rusty) that I've ever seen. He sat well for the camera.

Bow Wow Bingo Staten Island 2014

On June 14, 2014, Neil Madero's Exercise My Mutt, Philip Greis' Educate My Mutt and myself attended our first Bow Wow Bingo, a charity event for rescue dogs hosted by Louie's Legacy of Staten Island and Posh Pets Rescue group. All businesses in the tri-state area were encouraged to make a monetary donation as well as any gifts to add to their baskets, which were raffled off after each Bingo game.  Since this was my first time attending an official bingo game, I was pretty excited and a bit intimidated at the same time.

The structure of the event was very organized, there were tiers of baskets, which were raffled off by color coded tickets that the players could purchase.  All baskets were showcased on long tables so that all participants can clearly drop in their tickets for the basket that they hoped to win.  There was also decorated dog themed fondant cake that was distributed to the players.

The turnout of the event was pretty good, I believe all seats except for a handful were filled up. And tons of people were winning various baskets.  Unfortunately we didn't win anything but it was a good experience for all of us to attend and we plan to participate again next year.
